New Around Here
Hey guys, looking to build a NAS that is first and formost quiet and also low on power as I would like it running 24/7 potentially. Thinking of using freenas as the OS and using this as the hard drives http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822236344

Price isn't much of an issue but I don't want to spend money on anything that isn't needed. I will mainly be using it for storage/bitorrent downloads and possibly htpc but not as important since I can always stream with my xbox.

No such thing as a "first and foremost quiet" 10 drive NAS. Even four drives are usually too noisy for HTPC applications.

Well I don't mean dead silent but I just don't want it to sound like a server room if possible.

You didn't mention a budget.

There are acoustic racks for mounting noisy servers, but I doubt you'll find anything below $600 dollars.

If that price doesn't scare you away, take a look at:

I too have this problem, I put my 20-Bay NAS in a separate room and wired it to the living room. I wish I had the money for one of these puppies.

is that 20 Bay NAS for a residential situation?
If yes, what in the heck are you storing, if you don't mind saying?

How soon we forget.

The 20-Bay NAS (SAN/DAS) is Ol'Shuck. Built as a proof of concept.

Media, it stores lots and lots of media, it will top out at over 50TB, when built it had around a 30TB capacity.
