New Around Here
Hello all,

I am in the need of a new NAS system, but have a little trouble finding a good match. I would need a 19" premade system and so far really liked the QNAP 809RP or Thecus N8800 series, but i have to equip a small 19" rack where depth is a problem. These product are 80-89cm deep, but the maximum i can fit are around 58cm. As these products are designed with few HU and the non 19" counterparts are much smaller and would easily fit in the case are there any good performing NAS solutions at 16+ TB with the ability to run media servers for such rack depths? The budget would be around 4000$ or less.

Thank you for your time.

Netgear Readynas 2100 is about 32cm in depth. See here:

The 2100 is an x86 NAS 32 bit so its likely only capable of up to 16TB volumes. The Readynas 3100 is a 64 bit NAS and may be better suited to your needs but its about 65cm deep. Neither will hit 16TB until 4TB disks are out. Don't hold your breath for that anytime soon. Seagate is battling problems with their kinda recently released 3TB disk.

Thx for the tip, I really like the 12bay 3200 although its a little too deep tt.
Does anyone know of any good 8+ bay 19" backplanes from which a custom solution could be built?

Norco cases are extremely popular with the DIY large storage array builders on hardforum.com. See if they have anything that meets your needs.

I looked at the Norco cases which i like very much (although i think i have to let go of the notion of having a nice big array in my casedepth). Theres definatly some brilliant information on that forum. I think I'll go with a Chenbro though as Norco is around 200$ shipping to here.
