For some FOIMO reason, I packed up my 7 year old DSL-AC68U (operating as an RT) and bought and replaced this perfectly working modem with an ASUS RT-AX86U Pro.

All the same devices, all the same connections, apart from the Router, nothing on the network changed. However, I started having the printer connected by 2,4 wifi, and the Daiken AC also 2.4 WIFI, occassionally become inaccessible.

I am not using the smart network feature of the AX, still have both 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz SSID supposedly to ensure connectivity, yet this problem has appeared only on the new router. I keep getting told there is no problem, yet after the initial purchase, ASUS exchanged the router as not functioning as it should, but the problem persists with the replacement as well. I'm frustrated with people telling me there is no problem when it is happening in front of me, and it only happens with this new router and I'll probably TP-Link Archer in the future.

Have found a workaround which should give someone with the smarts an idea of what is going on and so post here (even if it's not the right board, sorry if that is the case).

So now if a client (wired or on the 5G wifi) can't reach one of these devices, I swap that clients connection to the 2.4 wifi, and then immediately swao it back to it's original connection, and as they say, Bob's your uncle, i.e. the device is now reachable.

It's ^&*^ infuriating especially with the printer, and I'm infuriated by people telling me it's my problem when all that changed was the ASUS router and settings were basically duplicated.

Does anybody with some smarts, have an inclination of what this might be down to and how to get ASUS support (ha ha, basically un-contactable) to accept there is a firmware problem.

Hi Marlo,
I have exactly the same problem - I replaced my very reliable AC68U with the AX86U Pro about 6 months ago and, to date, this issue has not been fixed. I have tried local ASUS support who suggested router reboot and factory reset. Waste of time - issue is still the same so they told me to contact ASUS technical support through the router interface.
I have also found that switching my laptop to the same wifi as printer (2.5g) and back again to 5Ghz and yes, that does allow for me to print but, once again, fails soon after. More than frustrating !! I have also raised the issue through the router interface support service - dont bother with that either - they ghost you. Other people on this forum have also been trying different things (of which I have also tried - settings changes, config changes), but nothing seems to work and anyone who reached out to ASUS has also been ignored. ASUS dont seem to give a toss. They keep releasing firmware but absolutely no fix for the wireless issue. I am getting to a point of throwing the thing away and buying another brand. Sorry I cant help.

When you say that are not using the "smart network feature of the AX", do you mean that have disabled also the "802.11ax / WiFi 6 mode" in the wireless 2.4 settings?
If not, try disabling it.
