I'll give it a try in the morning. It's already 11pm here in europe.

I'm planing to return the router anyway.

For the moment I have disabled the 2.4 radio. Does this have a negative impact on 5Ghz radio? I haven't notice anything...

The two radios are totally separate.

For the record, I have no issue with my 2.4 GHz or my 5 GHz here, using a mixture of laptop, phones and tablets.

Well mine is broken and I have no idea why. Maybe it's a faulty unit.

That's possible. Could also be a major source of interference in the area. Note that there are a lot of things on the 2.4 GHz band, not just other wireless routers. Cordless phones, Bluetooth devices, microwave ovens, baby monitors... A lot of these also use the 2.4 GHz band.

It is not the number of radios on any particular channel that reduces throughput but the actual traffic being broadcast on a channel. As a proactive counter measure I sometimes have to activate all four VIDs available on one of my APs. This often results in routers that have their WiFi radios sent to Auto moving to another channel. This is particularly useful in keeping routers that have 40Mhz bandwidth locked on out of my selected channel's bandwidth.

Ah interesting. Well that makes it really hard to decide on which fixed channel would be best no? As I'll never know which channel has the most available unused bandwidth. Doesn't that mean auto is a better choice when the channels are all crowded?

Out of curiosity, can you try this beta firmware (http://forums.smallnetbuilder.com/showpost.php?p=62090&postcount=165)?

That firmware is based on the new wireless driver that Asus is currently working on.

Instead of trying newer beta firmware, I actually downgraded to your .266.23b version and it appears to be working better. On 2.4ghz I'm getting 8-16mbps which is more in line with what my old router was getting. Going to do a bit more testing to see if this sufficient for my setup.

266.23b uses the wireless driver from build 220.

270.25 will also use that same driver, but only for the RT-AC66U, as the general feedback for the RT-N66U was that it was an improvement.

Most probably the unit was broken. None of the firmwares resolved my issue.
I have returned and got my money back. Either i wait a couple of months for a new generation or I get the Netgear R6300.
Untill than back to WNDR3700
Thank you all for the help!

You may want to wait for the new gen of AC routers. I actually returned the R6300 and picked up the AC66. Stick with your 3700 for now.

Yeah... waiting for new models from Asus , Netgear and Linksys. Most interesting looks the new AC67U but no idea about release date...

I heard mentions that it wouldn't be until this autumn at the earliest.

Nice. I switched up to your 270.25 firmware and things still seem to be working ok on 2.4ghz. Right now I need some stability, but when I have some time I'm going to try the beta version you posted as well.

The nice thing about firmware updates on this router is that all the settings remain so its really easy to switch between firmware versions!
