It probably depends on the router model and the firmware version, because I just checked Asus's code, and it's identical to mine. They will always start httpd in non-https mode if the router firmware has the RTCONFIG_AIHOME_TUNNEL feature enabled in it. So, this is by design and not a bug.
Thanks for clarification. As there is no way to disable the "RTCONFIG_AIHOME_TUNNEL feature", i.e. setting the parameter Authentication Method to "HTTPS" (only) will not prevent the router from listening to the specified HTTP-port (or 80 on stock firmware).

I think there is, the setting in Tools: "Disable Asusnat tunnel"..?

That wont' disable the compile time support.
