Hi all!
Trying to work out if my ASUS DSL-AC68U has buggy firmware or if it may be faulty. When I look at it with a wireless scanner on 5G if I have it set to 802.11ac or if I perform a factory reset then when looking at it with a wireless scanner it’s only transmitting on 1 channel on 5G. I would expect it to transmit on 2 channels in order to get higher speeds. The only way I can get it to do that is to set it to N only and choose 40MHz. Setting it to auto or choosing 20 40 80 MHz won’t cause it to transmit on more than 1 channel on 5GHz. Note: I don’t currently run any 802.11ac clients although I could test it with my Samsung Galaxy GT-I9506 on 5GHz but when I do the battery does get eaten up quite quickly. I do have other devices such as an Amazon Firestick and an IPad Air as well as some mid 2012 Macs but I know the Mac’s don’t use 802.11ac however that’s not the point as I want to be future proof. I also understand that when running N clients on 5GHz the network will be slowed down however as I stated even with a factory reset with nothing on the network it’s still only transmitting on 1 channel on 5G.
Currently running firmware 3.0.0.4.380_7361. Have tried earlier versions of the firmware from the ASUS website but with regard to this nothing changes. If I look around with the wifi scanner then I can see other networks such as BT home hubs transmitting on both channels on 5G. Also the highest speed that the router is showing on the WIFI scanner with a factory reset is 450MBPS. Do I have a faulty router? Any and all thoughts are much appreciated.
