a couple of questions

In January my AC68U stopped working and I made a quick buy of a RT-AX56U.
It is working, but...

What should I buy now, if it will be supported by Merlin long term?
And has good VPN, etc.?
RT-AX86U, RT-AC86U, or ???

Do to I have new address now, I also got a new ISP.
Internet is now a COAX with a router from ISP.
My router is connected to that router.
Is there a way to avoid the ISP router?
Adapters? Cables? or????

It sounds like this is actually a combined cable modem and wireless router. What is the make and model number?

You will still need to use the ISP device because of its cable modem part. Sometimes you have an option to put the modem into "bridge mode" so that you don't have double NAT (one router behind another router).

RT-AX68U, RT-AX86U, RT-AX88U and GT-AX11000

In my test with similar CPU router I could get up to 170Mbps in 386 firmware, NordVPN servers.

Instead of have to log in with one Mini-PC, 2 Laptops and a Android phone (for now), it is much more simple to run VPN on the router.
I also have a NAS (cable) and Internet radio...

When you need to enable/disable the VPN or change the server you connect to - what you are going to do? It's 2 klicks in VPN client app.

Well nothing, the NAS is like my PC's, etc. on the internal side of the router/VPN.

I'm asking about the convenience. On-device VPN Client requires 2 klicks and 2 seconds. On-router VPN Client requires logging into GUI and starting/stopping/re-configuring the client. What is much more simple on the router?

On Windows and Android yes, on Linux (my favorite OS) no.
It is command line in Linux with NordVPN
