Hi. Is there anyway to make the script capable of bypassing the Adblock detector on Forbes.com?
That's what the whitelist is for. I do the ground work, you do the fine adjustments yourself.
There's postings in this thread about forbes.com.

Works great thanks for the fine job, I was using the manual setting until today, merlins latest 380.58 wiped the jffs on the router so I gave this a shot. Can I still use my other block lists? what happens when I update or something if I change some lists around? I kind of had a large block file, but not this large. Thanks for the help, looking forward for the integration with pixelserve of some sort.
Thanks again @thelonelycoder

What's your list?

What's your list?

These are basically the same but it gives me a less sized file, aprox 200k.

I was using these with the addition of your lists except the real big one
http://support.it-mate.co.uk/downloads/hosts.txt:

This give aprox 6Mb file, like I said, using these plus yours, minus the UK one thats really large.
Thanks again, Regards

http://hosts-file.net/grm.txt
http://hosts-file.net/mmt.txt
http://hosts-file.net/ad_servers.txt
http://adaway.org/hosts.txt

You can change as much as you want in /adblocking/update-hosts.sh. And as long as you don't change the hosts file type it will stay that way.

I'll probably include these as a fourth hosts file type in AB-Solution 1.1

Thanks for making this, it sounds really promising! Sorry to be a complete noob, but in simple terms how do I go about installing this? Ive installed the Asuswrt-Merlin firmware, connected to the router via SSH, downloaded your AB-Solution files and put them on a usb stick.

How do I actually locate the file? This whole process is completely alien to me so would appreciate some help, thanks.

If this is Version 1.05 you downloaded post it in that thread.
Anyway type in and hit Enter:
Code:
cd /tmp/mnt/
Then type this and hit enter:
Code:
ls
It will list your USB Devices name.
This name is what you have to enter as your sh command (instead of sda1)

AB-Solution does not use dnsmasq.conf.add, it uses /jffs/scripts/dnsmasq.postconf.
So, you're free to use the former to add your address.
Thank you, how can I use dnsmasq.postconf:
pc_append "address=/www.google.com/216.239.38.120" $CONFIG

this is actually the way I was doing it as conf.add had stopped working properly for some reason and as I never touch it I cant remeber why that was. Something to do with dnscrypt I think. Oh and just typing that has made me realise that has possibly stopped working aswell

pc_append "server=127.0.0.1#65053" $CONFIG
pc_append "no-resolv" $CONFIG

So I guess my question is how can I get these pc_appends into the dnsmasq.postconf the script creates?

Many thanks

You best upgrade to the latest AB-Solution v1.05.
And then you can add your append to the file under the entry the script made, just as the merlin instructions say.
Dnsmasq.postconf does no longer change in this version once installed / upgraded.

Thanks for the help. Ive successfully installed it now :)

Not to be rude, but I am a bit disappointed with how its performing though. The main reason I wanted to use it was for blocking adverts on YouTube without needing to install AdBlocker on every device. On my Andriod phone it makes no difference - the adverts still play as normal. On my computer the adverts try to play but I guess are blocked so it just gets caught in a loop and nothing plays! I choose the "Medium" package whilst installing and have flushed the DNS, cleared the cache and rebooted my PC and router. Perhaps it wasnt really designed for this, but YouTube is probably one of the most prevalent and annoying source of adverts on the internet, so would be good if it did work. I expect it will be useful for other things tho.

EDIT: Is there a website with known adverts that are definitely blocked with AB-Solution (medium settings) so I can test that its working properly? Ive disabled AdBlock and am now getting lots of adverts that are normally blocked.

A search in this thread would have given you the answer to that.

Its pretty reasonable to assume an ad blocker would block ads on one of the most popular websites on the internet! If this isnt the case perhaps it should be made clear on the main page. I dont want to sound unappreciative, its still nice to have but dont think it can replace other blockers yet, sorry. Hopefully you can add this functionality in future versions :)
