Has anyone got any recommendations for AC routers based on their experiences , currently running an RT-N66U which is starting to get a bit flakey.

So , has anyone got any recommendations and any 'do not touch with a bargepole' information ?

In the 'do not touch' category is anything other than an Asus router that is supported by RMerlin's excellent firmware.

The RT-AC87U being the exception to the above 'rule' (avoid it at all costs if you want something that 'should' work for you). ;)

THIS rule does not apply to all user - some have problems, but most not! It really depends on the use case and the situation (and willingness of the user) to get it working.

My AC87U runs like a charm from the beginning...

just wait till wifi and eth1 fight for bandwidth. Thats when things fail. Most never end up stressing it like that. A bottlenecked internal design has no place in networking products. Its like having a PC with 10Gb/s networking but the CPU bus and ram speed is slower than the NIC.

The 87U tends to fall on one side or the other - for some, it works fine, for others, it's been problematic - and it doesn't seem to have a middle ground.

With the RT-AC3100 series, along with continued support for the RT-AC68U, there's not really a compelling reason to picking up an 87U these days...
