Yeah that's the big problem with 2.4 wifi. The slowest client on the network will drag everything down to its level speed-wise whether it can communicate faster or not. That's why 5 is better if you have a choice.

In your router admin page, network map, View List - You can see all the clients and their connected speeds. I would bet your really SLOW 2.4 clients in the list are the newly added light switches
..
That last test i did I had 7 things connected but out of the 7 only 1 was on the 2.4g network...the laptop i used to test it. I switched to my phone and connected to the 2.4g network and tested it just now and got 27.9 down and 13.7 down. and had my laptop wifi off.

I just now added 6 items to the 2.4ghz network and retested and im getting 42.7 down and 17.4 up. This is weird.
And under the wireless clients, it is jumping from 8 total connected to 2 to 4 to 7 back to 8 clients and just keeps jumping around . I managed to get a pic of it though.

From this past week and what i have seen today, all of the light switches rest at 19.5 mbps.

Maybe the light switches aren't connected all the time. Wonder if they go into some sort of sleep mode or something similar and connect when they wake up.

I did do some googling on it yesterday because my wife asked the same thing. From what I can tell ..no.
Is it normal for the client list to jump around showing x amount and in a second later it will show x amount of clients?
I'll take a screen snip of my settings in my router and post em and see if you see something wrong that I have overlooked to.

Yes, that list is always jumping around at least from my experience with Asus routers over the years.

What app do you have controlling them? Maybe a setting in the app that controls its connectivity

Its called Smart Home or Tuya. They are the same app but tuya is the one I use, it seems to run a little smoother even though they look the same. Here is some screenshots of my router webui.
I looked in the smartphone app that I can control them from and there isnt any settings other that add new lights or remove or turn them on or off.

network list is broken since few years, known bug on Asus.
Do you have in Wifi-prof settings Airtime fairness, change it maybe helpful.

And try different fix channels on 2G, dont look at others, just test them all 13.

Cant remember about Wifi - proof setting you mentioned, I can say that what ever factory is under the professional setting is still stock from when I put it back to factory.

I'll give it a shot on the wireless channels and see what happens. It will be this evening after 6 PM eastern time when I'll be home from work to look and to test it out.

Here is something I didnt think about either, is the wifi adapter in my laptop ..it could be slower than my phone because last night on the 2.4 network I did a speed test with my note 8 and was getting 55 and 59 mbps down. So I'll check all this evening and use a few differnt devices to run the speed test also.

I'll report my findings back here as soon as I check and test and I'll post screen shots.

Ya say the network lost has been broke for a while..I wonder if the Merlin firmware has it fixed in it?

On a side note....I just want to say thank you to everyone who has put forth their suggestions in helping me try to solve this.

no, client list same with Merlin.
Do you use an Intel Wifi-card in your laptop, something like AC8265? Had a lot of problems with it in 2.4G with interferences when second router too near.

The network wifi adapter is a RealtekRTL8188EE 802.11bgn

I just changed channels and now my 2.4 network is not even showing up in the list of networks o any device I checked it on.

What gives. It did this before I did the reset last week too. I can go reboot my router and it will amazingly appear also

Well I fibbed..my 2.4ghz network has completely disappeared

I think you are introducing additional problems into the situation by changing something that worked fine. I would put the 2.4 back to what you had it on or maybe set it to auto, auto, auto everything for 2.4 and let the router manage it. Give it a quick reboot and see if the clients see the band.

I cant even log Into any of my 2.4ghz networks now. I had my main 1 and 1 guest I cant access none of the 2.4. Only 5g with my phone

What do you mean log into "your networks". Do you mean connect to them from a client? Did you log into the router and make the changes I mentioned in post #36?

Yeah I changed the channel from 1 to 11..was gonna go from 11 down to 1 so I selected ch11. The web ui did its little reboot sequence and now I can't connect to my main 2.4gh or my 1 guest network with my PC, tablet or phone. It will appear, then go away ...appear then go away in the list of available networks.

Just now, our of the blue, it auto reconnected on my laptop and as I'm typing this ..my phone....totally not getting it. ..and it's gone again from either ...
