Hi guys how are you?

I have a serious issue with my AC3200 and my Astro A50 headset

The headset is wireless and it starts poping the sound a lot when the wifi is used near it, the sound starts to fail a lot

As i can`t change the channel from the Astro one is there any way to select the channel that the AC3200 will use with smart connect on? Or someone know another way to isolate this issue?

Thanks a lot

You can select the channel from router.

I believe you can disable smart connect for testing. I had the router quite a while ago after trying for like
only a week.

Disabling smart connect will make me loose the 3 band feature :(

And the Astro team support just send me that :

Hey wsarahan,

Our A50 Wireless Headset uses channels 149-161 on the 5GHz spectrum which is 5.8GHz. There is no way to change this because we initially needed to use those because it offered the best compatibility in certain countries due to those channels being reserved for short range wireless devices only although your router should definitely offer that option unless you have a certain mode enabled.

Any way to avoid this channels?

Thanks again

Any way to avoid this channels?

No. The 5 GHz frequency supports two different ranges, and since this router has two 5 Ghz radio, each one of them uses one of the two ranges. So if you want to use two separate 5 GHz radio at the same time on your router, there's nothing you can do, as your headset can use any channel within that entire second band. You will have to disable Smart Connect and disable the second 5 GHz radio.

So the only way is to disable smart connect or change the headset right?

Interesting - the Astro A50 is 5GHz... and it seems to be analog - which is ok, lower voice quality perhaps, but very low latency, which is important esp. for gamers...

I've seen similar effects with 2.4GHz is someone is too close to an AP there, but only if these were analog based...

Best thing perhaps is to move away from the AP, I would suggest the transmitter first...

WiFi in the analog domain tends to be "pop-pop-pop", slightly different that the GSM snap-bz-bz-BZ-BZ thing...

Oddly enough - look at the analog perspective - move things around a bit - the near field interference is pretty short range...

Thanks Merlin

Smart Connect is about being able to use two different bands at the same time. If you can't use the second band, then yes, Smart Connect makes little sense anymore.

You could try disabling Smart Connect, setting the channel of the second 5 GHz to use the highest channel possible (161), re-enable Smart Connect, and hope that a) the router keeps using it even with Smart Connect enabled (no idea if it will), and b) that the headset would try using the lowest channel, and stay there.
