I have a AC3200 router running 378_9313. Can someone explain to me why I can 't download a 15mb file either wireless OR wired. I can surf the internet without any problems on ANY wired or wireless device. When I go to download a simple 15 mb file, I'm getting the STOPPED (ERR = -3295) message about the network connection has been reset. The file will start to download and get to about 13mb and then die on me. That is when I receive the error message.

I have rebooted the router and that didn't resolve the issue. This router has become unreliable if I can't download a small 15mb file.

How do I make this router stable and reliable so I don't encounter any problems such as the above error message?

Perhaps, my issue with downloading a 15mb file and getting the STOPPED (err = -3295) message, has to do with QoS settings. I have no problems surfing the internet. In fact, webpages load fairly quickly on most of my wireless devices. My thought is how I have QoS configured. Right now, I have it turned ON and I have it set to Adaptive QoS and Upload and Download are set to ZERO. I have Web surfing as the highest and File Transferring at the bottom as the lowest. I buy iOS Apps and I use Bittorent. I need the best of both worlds, web surfing and download files.

There has to be someone in this community that can point me in the right direction or educate me on how to properly configure this router for stability and reliability. After all, what is the point of a router if you can't download a 15mb file from Apple.

Leave qqs alone , what are your other settings ? Do you use smart connect
? I download 6 gb files with no drops , don't see how you would have trouble with a 15M file .
Let me add I've seldom used Asus stock FW , Merlin FW has always worked well , been stable

I've had a boatload of problems with my 3200 on fw9313.
It's possible the file is so small that it's getting nuked by bufferbloat delays. Try measuring your connection speed and setting your QoS bandwidths at 90% of each measured value (rather than Auto QoS, which can be unreliable).

I turned OFF QoS and I still can't download a 15mb file. I have Smart Connect turned OFF. What other settings are you speaking about? I have Firewall ON, App Analysis is ON and other settings enabled.

Last night, on my Mac Mini WIRED connected to the router, I tried to download a 20mb file and got stopped with the same error message. There was no other traffic on the router at this point and time.

At this point, I feel it is router that is causing the problem. Here is why.

Last week, on this router, I was running firmware 378_7838 and I was faced with the same exact problem. I called up Asus and the tech guy told me to factory reset the router. Ok, so I did reset the router back to 7838 stock firmware. Next, I proceeded to upgrade to 378_9313 and EVERYTHING was working fine. I was able to download a 20gig torrent file AND I was able to download a 20mb iOS app. I was doing this while other devices were on and connected to the router. Later on, that evening, I took out my iPod Touch to download an iOS app. This iPod is WIRELESS connected to the router. That is when I found out that I was facing the same exact problem AGAIN. So, here I am with the exact same problem that I can't download a 15mb file on 7838 firmware AND I can't download the same file on 3913 firmware.

It appears that performing a factory reset TEMPORARILY fixes the download file problem but I can't reset it each and every time I am faced with this problem. Frankly, I shouldn't have to reset anything only configure this router.

What settings did you enable after factory reset? Are any of the Trend Micro settings turned on?

As of right now, QoS is completely OFF. QoS and Bandwidth are OFF. I did not reboot the router. On my Mac Mini which is connected to Airport Express which the AE is WIRELESS connected to the router using 2.4 band. I am able to download an iOS app one at a time but it is a hit or miss on the downloads. I continue to get the "network connection has been reset" message. Again, I receive the same message when I try to download a file on a WIRED connection.

Perhaps, there is something wrong with the Asus stock firmware?

In AiProtection, both Network and Parental controls are ON. What tests should I run and I will post back the results.

The problem I am facing with downloading a 15mb or a 10gig file either on a wired or wireless connection, is it due to the Asus stock firmware? I tried 7838 and 3913 with the same problems. Does it make sense that both of these firmwares might be the cause of my issues?

What is the latest Merlin firmware version that I can try on the AC3200 router? The Merlin version has to be more stable and reliable than 7838 or 3913. I don't think my issues are related to any settings on the router. I will turn off every setting later on and reboot the router. I will see if my issues are firmware related or setting related.

Merlin 378 - 56-2 was stable , I'm on 380-57-0 and have had no problems in 12 days on the AC3200 , but some have had issues with 380-57 on the AC3200 .
Have not had to reboot either of my AC3200 routers , one on 378 56 has been going for over 6 weeks , the other on latest Merlin 12 days

What is the procedure for upgrading the firmware on this router? Right now, I have 3913 installed on this router. Please correct me if I am wrong in these steps.

1. Factory reset the router to Asus stock firmware.
2. Upload the new Merlin firmware (378 - 56.2)
3. Once the firmware is successful, proceed to configure router.

If otherwise noted, I will perform the above steps to upgrade to Merlin firmware.

Have you checked your modem directly with a wired connection? There are some ISP network-related problems that can cause similar problems (very large/very small files don't download). In my case, I was seeing a large number of uncorrectable errors on the modem's status page.

No, I didn't check the modem's page because I didn't have any problems when I was using a Linksys router AND using the same cable modem. Last night, I hooked up my Airport Extreme to the same modem and configured the Extreme. No problems at all with downloading small or large files. It points back to the Asus router.

This is the proper sequence.

Resetting the router to factory defaults before you flash a new firmware is (usually) a waste of time.

Since the last post, I installed Merlin 378_56.2 on this router. Everything appeared to be working just fine. I did run a tool to determine which channels my neighbors are on and adjusted the 2.4 and 5 band channels accordingly. I was getting good speed and surfing the internet wasn't a problem. I was able to download torrent files and I was able to download an iOS app directly from my iPhone. Everything appeared to be working as it should be.

BUT......

About a week later, I started to experience some of the same issues AGAIN. I started to experience the STOPPED (ERR = -3295) messages on my Macbook Air and Apple devices. I noticed the same recurring issues on my WIRED Mac Mini. But I was able to download a torrent file on my WIRED Vista computer.

I rebooted the router unplugged anything of non importance. I connected my Macbook Air to the router and tried to download an iOS app and still the problem continued to persist.

I turned off the Asus router and factory reset my Linksys 1900ac router running 1.1.10.167514. I have ZERO problems with this router and any Apple products. Right out of the gate, I am able to download torrent files and iOS apps to ALL my Apple devices. I am able to download iOS apps WIRELESSLY on my Macbook Air and iPhone without any issues.

The Linksys router is in the same location in the garage where the Asus router was located. On the Linksys router, I have the 2.4 and 5 band channel set to AUTO and I don't have any issues.

I don't understand why I have so many issues with Apple devices and Asus router. It appears I have less issues with Linksys router and Apple devices. I would like to use the Asus router for the AiProtection, Traffic Analyzer and Firewall features but not if I will be experiencing issue with my Apple devices.

Wait until you try to use Airplay - Linksys (and others) seem to have a problem there...
