Hi
I have a AC5300 and the lower 5Ghz radio stops transmitting in the middle of it being used.
The 2.4Ghz & 5G-2 continue to work.
I verified this using a Wi-Fi analyzer app on my cell phone.
This happens with it in router mode or AP mode, with stock or Merlins firmware.
I had the AC5300 replaced with a new one.
I has the same exact problems.
They ran for apx 20 days then the problem starts.
The first one after running 3 weeks would after that stop transmitting about every 2 days.
I only have 1 device using that band, a Surface Pro4.
There are no other signals on that same channel (44).
If I power cycle or reset or turn the Wi-Fi off then on using the external button the 5G-1 turns back on.
Seeing as a new replacement has the exact same issue, I do not think another replacement will do any good.
I post this here to mainly inform Asus and (other users) of this issue so they (Asus) can look into it.

I don't have a AC5300 but I have a suggestion. Do you have specified the channel for each network?

In my AC68 if I leave it auto on the 5GHz it sometimes becomes no longer available on the cellphone or laptop but choosing a valid channel for my country manually it solves the issue.

Update:
Using wifi analyzer app on my cell phone I picked the least busy 2.4Ghz channel.
As for the 5Ghz channels, I picked ones that had no other signals showing.
So far it has run 2 weeks after turning the wi-fi off then back on with the external button.
Keeping fingers crossed....

I am having the same issue. After a suggestion for a factory default reset which I did, because 5ghz-2 which would for some reason only connect on N 144mbps to my Maximus IX Code Atheros adaptor which is AC and was connecting on AC consistently at least 2 firmware updates ago.

Current Firmware Version: 3.0.0.4.380_7743

After Factory Reset, 5ghz-1 would show up initially and then totally disappears then even if it shows up and I try to connect to it, it would give me a Cannot Connect while the 2.4 and 5ghz-2 could connection with no issues. What's frustrating is that 5ghz-2 is still connection on N instead of AC.

Router's 5Ghz-1 stopped transmitting on Friday.
Turned Wi-Fi off then on using the external button.
Ran 2 days and stopped again.
Power cycle router, ran 2 hours then stopped again.
As I said in the first post it only stop's when it's being actively used.
My first guess as to what is happening, is that it is a hardware design issue.
That the 5Ghz-1 transmitter is overheating, possible thermal pad/grease issue.
I, unfortunately, did not check the temperature at the time of failure.
I did get a 140mm usb powered fan to put on the top of the router.
Will have to see how this $15.00 experiment turns out.
