Hello,

I recently updated to the latest Merlin firmware and since then I cannot get the second 5GhZ network to work unless I manually change settings and apply the settings so the radio is restarted. It is not active on reboot until I do that.

On the web interface, however, it shows as working after the reboot even if it's not showing up in any devices. I went to 384.17 from 384.14 that was working fine and radioing well for both 5Ghz networks. This happened exactly after the update.

I did a soft update, but since then and to torubleshoot I have factory reset the router and did an update to lastest manufacture firmware then installed merlin.

Anybody knows what could be going wrong here?

Thanks!

Are you using Auto Control Channel? Are you waiting sufficient time (around 10 minutes should do it) for DFS to 'clear'? :)

Yes, I have tested this even with 12 hours gap between reboot and rescan. The network is just not there. Which is interesting since the 2.4 and the other 5Ghz ones are there, and the second reappears the moment I update any wifi setting that requires a radio restart (without the router rebooting). It seem the radio for the second network does not initialize on Router reboot for some reason.

THhe network shows up again the moment radio is restarted in any way. If I activate or deactivate a 2.4Ghz guest network (for example) the missing 5Ghz network magically reappears. Not sure what could be causing this!

Your updating of the firmware seems a bit off.

Flash the firmware you want to use and then do a full reset/Initialize all settings and also 'format the JFFS partition on next reboot' too.

Do not import any saved config files. Do not 'blindly' copy old settings that may have worked 'once upon a time'.

A minimal and manual configuration to secure the router and connect to your ISP. Please see the M&M Config and the Nuclear Reset guides in the link in my signature below for the suggested base settings.

Test fully and continue testing as you add one feature/change at a time too until you either have the network configuration you want or you find the step where the network goes south on you. :)

I guess that’s what I’ll have to do. It seems that something is failing on me. Okay! It’s good to know that this not a common problem :).

I will troubleshoot a bit more and get back to you if I fix it somehow!

Ok! An update! In the middle of my troubleshooting I realized that if I set the control channel for the network manually (rather than auto) even to the same channel “Auto” was assigning, the network starts radioing on reboot!

of course something is fishy here but that’s a quick fix in case somebody else faces ever a similar problem!
