New Around Here
I have an AC56U running 380.68_4 and am wondering how I specify a time zone that doesn't appear in the pull down list in the system settings. I want to specify Central America, which is GMT-6 but has no DST. Any suggestions?

I suggest manually set your time zone to GMT-6 and then check the "Manually set the daylight saving time" box. In there specify dates that are 1 day apart, perhaps with one at 23:00 and the other at 01:00. That way you have a fake DST period of just a couple of hours.

Thanks Colin

I foresee a problem... the way the UI works I can only set the 1st/2nd/3rd... Sun/Mon/Tue so I'm guessing that can lead to problems when I say (for example) it starts on the 2nd Sun at 23 and ends on the 2nd Mon at 1, the two days may not be adjacent (if the month begins with Monday).

You mentioned set it to manual, is there an automatic?

By not ticking the "manual" box DST will be automatic. But from what you said you don't want to apply DST, correct?

That is correct, I don't want DST.

I don't see a "manual" box to tick, but automatic wouldn't help anyway.

It would be nice to (a) have more time zones in the list, or (b) be able to turn off DST.

Thanks again.

Sorry, I think I have misunderstood the question.

I've just changed my time zone setting to "Central America" and the "Manually set the daylight saving time" box disappears, presumably because it knows that there isn't any DST.

Are you saying that you don't have the "Central America" time zone, or you do but it is applying DST?

EDIT: It's possible I'm seeing different options than you because I am using John's fork of Merlin's firmware.

I don't have Central America. There are only 4 entries in my GMT-6 list, and I'm using "Central Time (US, Canada" for lack of a better option, which is why have the DST issue. My other choices are: Saskatchewan, Monterrey, and Guadalajara.

This is what I see:

@john9527 Did you add extra time zones to your firmware?

In addition to the UI being considerably different, I have several differences in the zone list, including Central America:

I tweaked a couple (Chile and Moscow), but didn't touch Central America.

I compared my fork and Merlin. In my fork, Central America is code UTC6. In Merlin it's gone, and the Central America string variable has been replaced by the Central Time US label as UTC6DST. Looks like somewhere someone messed up the TZ table for Merlin.

Well, given John's fork works I switched both my routers to his version (28E). It was fairly painless, and the restore/backup script was very nice, thanks.

Note: the only thing that wasn't restored in the process was my OpenVPN Certificate Authority, that I had entered with the "Content modification of Keys & Certificates" link under Authorization mode. Once I put that back in everything worked in the restore, including VPN.

I also updated the TZ to "Central America", and everything works perfectly.

Thanks to both Colin and John!
