I am a total newbie on networking. Please help!!

First thing I would suspect (especially with DSL) is the modem. If you can get easy access to another modem try swapping. Also see if the modem loses its link (usually it's a flashing DSL led on the modem, but that will vary between models).

Might also be worth asking your ISP to check your line stats, in case there is noise or too much attenuation.

yup sounds like at&t dsl lol, i have 2 friends who have it just randomly cut out, even tho im pretty sure back when i was and i had regular dsl or regular adsl it would randomly do stuff like that, once i got on adsl2+ never had any problems, no downtime that i can remember

I am bridging my old Billion 7800n with the AC66U at the moment.
There's nothing wrong with the 7800nbut I wanted to upgrade to a dual band network.
I setup the 7800n again and no drop out at all.
I don't have another modem with me but I may borrow one from my friend later
