Hi,

I am on the latest merlin firmware, do you guys recommend disabling hardware acceleration? Or what other settings should i tweak for better performance.

Thanks

I tried the latest stock on mine and RMerlin's. My Internet is 30/3. I couldn't get above 20Mbps download. I tried the latest dd-wrt, kong builds, and I'm getting 30 down, 3up.

Which build were you using?

Are you saying you could only get 20 on stock or Rmerlins?

Thanks Charles

oh and you have the ac68 not the ac66, is that right? I'm assuming the build number is the same for the 68 and 66?

I tried both stock and Merlin's. I have the rt-ac66u, n66u, ac68u, netgear r6300 and others. Lol.
You may see me on hoarders if they ever have a wireless router episode.

I'm getting there, with an WRT310N (modded as an E2000 or E3000, I forgot), RT-N16, N66, AC66, AC56, AC68... The sad thing is that most of them are lying around on tables and shelves rather than in a drawer as now and then I need to turn one on to test something out.

Must drive the neighbours crazy when I forgot to disable wireless on them.

HW acceleration shouldn't really matter with a 30 Mbits connection (that's also what I have). An AC66U can easily route 150 Mbits of traffic without HW acceleration.

Quite a few features will automatically disable it however due to compatibility reasons, such as QoS (which you might want to disable while troubleshooting any performance issue if you did enable it).

Merlin,

Thanks for being patient with me (8JF74317KG3330118). Not much right now but I am a member of the 16 ton club.

If I'm reading the posts right should I wait on the merlin rev38 or will your latest be just fine. Second is there a post that shows a good general starting point for most settings/ I mean I have a few PC's tablets, kindles, xbox's, wii, ps3 and multiple cell phones. The amount of info about routers is overwhelming. Just want a good starting off point. I have a 20mb speed from the local cable company and I will be moving the asus to the middle of the house as per your instructions. Will cat6e hardlined from the modem 75 feet be a major improvemnet over 75ft of cat5e?

If anyone can point me to a thread with a general settings discussion I would really appreciate it (heck I know Merlin will too!) :D

Thank you to Merlin and everyone else as well.

Charles

Go ahead with 374.36 Beta 1 for now, it should be fine for the majority of users.

You won't see any difference between Cat 5e (rated for 1 Gbps) and Cat 6e (rated for up to 10 Gbps). For your setup it will be pretty much the same (minus the cost difference, and Cat6e often being more heavily shielded).
