New Around Here
I installed the latest merlin (378.56_2) on a AC68U, but I was having various disconnects so I wanted to reinstall the asus firmware, unfortunately the updload flash doesn't work, it uploads the file to 100% but doesn't apply, and just instantly goes to the main page.

I've tried various firmwares and nvram resets etc all with the same outcome. I cannot remove this firmware.

I tried to put my router in rescue mode but the software just keeps saying its not in rescue mode.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you doing it via hard wired connection (Ethernet) or wireless?

If your doing it wireless don't try hard wired.
Also, what browser do you use, try a different browser such as Chrome/FireFox, sometimes it can be picky as when I've tried to flash cfw it doesn't do it properly, I find Chrome more reliable.

I'm using wired with static IP... you know the standard deal 192.168.1.2 or 192.168.1.5 etc.

I've tried Chrome and IE on both Windows 10 and WHS 2011 (closest thing i had to windows 7 still).

All platforms and browsers exhibited same results.

In case of emergency you can use the Asus Firmware Restauration tool.
http://www.asus.com/Networking/RTAC68U/HelpDesk_Download/

Edit: my bad, I see that you've already tried that.
I had it too, but that was because I forgot the first step that is mentioned in the recovery tool: first do a factory reset and then do a recovery reset.

Hi,

Before we run in all kind of directions let's do a step by step analysis:
a) Did you unplug all USB devices and reboot before firmware update?
b) Did you do a factory reset with minimum configuration and the try again to change the firmware (without USB connected)?
c) How exactly do you do the update (from download to the 'apply button')
d) What happens during the update (messages) in detail?

With this kind of analysis we can try to understand the issue and give you directions how to solve it!

With kind regards
Joe

a) No USB devices we're connected
b) I did both the factor reset in the dash and a NVRAM clear by using the power button and the WPS (after getting past inital wizard I was still unable to upload firmware)
c) I went to the firmware upload section and selected the firmware off of my computer (tried a handfull of last revisions from asus's website)
d) No message, the bar slowly creeps up to 100% then then web gui flashes and goes back to the main page.
