Does the wireless log page say its on ch 36 too?
Yes. And I just realized it's also only running at 20 mhz even when I set 80.:/
The 5 Ghz band is empty in my area so I'm pretty sure it's not because of clashes with other ssid's or anything.

Ok I managed to get it working. Had to switch from N+AC mode to Auto.

hmmm...

Flash the oldest firmware you can find. Reset, then flash it with 5656 firmware.

Tried that too...and it degraded with in minutes

I am giving my ac56u with current firmware to a co-worker to use for a while....to see if he has the same issues as me..

Meanwhile, when I downgraded the firmware on my ac68u, wifi degraded within hours. Funny thing now though, I upgraded the firmware to current via the router gui(not flashing the file) and since I have done that, wifi is still fine.

Cource, that may not mean much, it does seem to be a random issue. First few days with the 68u (current firmware as now)were fine with no issues, then it suddenly just started acting up.

Anyone figured out what is at the root cause of these issues? A certain setting ...or something? Nothing is reported in the router logs.

sounds like a hardware issue, after reading all the posts
dirty power, doubtful that will cause a problem BUT if you can't get a good 118V/60Hz in to the adapter for power it 'may' cause some minor issues, but I really doubt that
could be the firmware re-flashing over and over has corrupted the 'layout' on the chips and when you think that resetting it erases everything could be some of the code just hangs on with the skin of it's teeth and doesn't delete out
Go all the way back to the very first firmware/stock on the Asus website
flash/reset/flash/reset then move up the food chain to a more recent one
just suggestions
can always get in your vehicle and at 80 mph throw it out the window, stop, pick it up and go plug it in....if it still works then it's not the hardware

Been running the new firmware for a few days now and have not had any problems yet. My 5GHz is running on CH149 with bandwidth of 80. After I uploaded the new code I reset to factory defaults from the Admin page and reloaded my custom information.

The ability to set ICONS for the clients is a nice trivial addition but they seem to have missed some basic ones like printers & switches. What is that one in the lower left supposed to be?

I have always had pretty clean and stable power....but regardless....I have all my equipment on True Sine Wave UPS with AVR.

Will have to see how my ac56u works for my co-worker over the weekend and next week...

If all else fails got to my last post, last sentence....
but use 95 MPH instead of 80 MPH
:D
that WILL fix the problem

always good to have a sense of humor, if not computers and technology in general will drive you insane.....

That's how I keep hold of my sanity....since I work as a Technician at Mico Center...;):D:p

I running the latest f/w but when I select the main 5G channel from Auto and they apply, it reverts back to auto and the channel 157 continues to come up. Help!

I see they changed the transmit settings of 2.4 and 5G where you cannot set the transmit level. There is a slider setting but at 100% what is the level?
