Try a complete power cycle to fully reboot the Quantenna system.

Hi Merlin,

Did that, 5G still down. I tried restoring to Asus's Firmware RT-AC87U_3.0.0.4_376_2044-g338a0a0 strangely the 5G does not work now and the 5g light does not turn up.

Try doing a factory default reset and manually reconfiguring your router in case you have an invalid setting.

RT-AC87R and disconnects on 5GHz

I've been experiencing issues now on multiple machines where the machine will appear connected to the network on 5GHz but will not have any Internet connectivity. I'm running the latest firmware build 2044. Both machines that seem to be affected most have Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6235 wireless NICs running the latest Intel drivers.

After running the "Troubleshoot Problems" UI in Windows, the following comes up: "Windows could not automatically detect this network's proxy settings" and a reset of the NIC will solve the issue.

Anyone else seeing this issue? I have never once seen this with the RT-N66U or any other router with any machine.

i also noticed similar thing to your, where mb pro fall back to the 2.4hz once in a while and even though my connection bar still show signal but i don't have internet access so i removed the 2.4hz on my connection list to temporary avoid this issue.

Hi Merlin,

Could you please move this thread back to ASUS AC Routers & Adapters forum ? I dont think this is AsusWRT-Merlin specific.

I tried with all the firmware (default one) , RT-AC87U_3.0.0.4_376_2044-g338a0a0 and AsusWRT-Merlin-Beta1 did a factor restore aswell. However, I am still not able to get the 5G working. No matter what I do on the GUI, I keep getting this in the wireless log : 5 GHz radio is not ready and the 5G Led does not light up.

manually reconfiguring your router in case you have an invalid setting.
I am a beginner (hence init :D ) Could you please give me some instructions how I can do it manually ?

I tested it on my Netgear X6 just to make sure there is no problem with my laptop.

Also I exchanged my AC87R router just to make sure I havent got a bad piece, unfortunately even the new one is having same problem.

Any pointers/help greatly appreciated

With the new 2044 firmware build I am also experiencing problems on the 5GHz band. My HTC One cannot connect to it at certain times and even completely disconnects. The range on my phone says I have full bars for the 5Ghz (30ft) and for some reason it can't connect at certain times. It's weird... I have to connect way close to the router itself (5ft to 10ft) to be able to connect then I can move farther away and it would work.

So far I'm not experiencing the problem with my 5GHz on my Xbox One & Lenovo Laptop which is a little farther away. I assume my HTC One 5GHz is jacked... I know the bands on those other devices have better range than the HTC One.

An Asus rep pinged me in a private message to ask me to provide some info to him.

The crux of my problem seems to be devices on 5GHz having issues connecting to the default gateway, while still being connected to the network itself.

I'm wondering if this is IPv6 related.

What I meant was to do a factory default reset, then reconfiguring your router without restoring a saved configuration file.

Did a factory default reset ... 5G still down :-( Nope no config file restored..

Did you go to the professional wireless tab, and make sure the 5GHz radio is enabled? As when I first used my AC87R, the radio's were disabled.

I don't have IPv6 available in my area and I have that disabled. Could this still cause the issue with others changing the channel and the frequency to 40Mz instead of 80Mz? I changed my channel from 157 to 48 and at 40Mz to see if the issues are constant.

This is a quote from Gary Key who announced this in the Asus RT-AC87 Offical Release thread:

"We officially released an updated firmware package for the RT-AC87R router today. This is firmware version 3.0.0.4.376.2044 that includes GUI updates, minor bug fixes and general performance enhancements over the first release 1779 firmware. This firmware will be available via the update function within 24 hours. You can download it now at - https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...4-g338a0a0.zip .

We will have another public release firmware late next week (if quality testing passes the current beta) that incorporates Quantenna’s performance pack firmware for additional 5GHz throughput and range." End Quote

I will wait for this firmware release by the end of this week and hopefully the issues are fixed...

Yep I did. Also did the following

Disable <wait for 10 min> Enable <Wait for 10 min> ...

:-(

Well the odds are very unlikely two of the same router's 5GHz band not working. It seems to me there is a setting's issue somewhere that you need to find, and correct. I wish I could help more atm, but it has me even confused to why it's not working.

I'm merging this thread into another existing thread also related to RT-AC87 5 GHz issues.

My 5ghz band crapped out on me yesterday as well. Couldn't figure out why as all settings seemed fine. I also wasn't aware a new firmware came out so I installed it after coming here to see if anyone else had issues (how I found out about the update) and for now my 5ghz band is once again back.

It turns out that this is a Hardware issue. Just had mine replaced with third one.

I now have 5G working !!! phew :rolleyes::rolleyes:

The BB rep told me he had atleast 5 people complain the same!!

Had this issue. Easy fix, just unplug power and replug it in. Mine has done this 2 times after making changes. Rebooting does not fix, only pulling power or pushing the power button on/off.
