Seems like one would have to try it to know! Have at it and report your findings back to forum members.Just wondering - would the RT-AC87U board fit int he RT-AC3200 casing?
Just wondering - why would you do that????Just wondering - would the RT-AC87U board fit int he RT-AC3200 casing?
Sounds like too much work when a simple laptop cooler or fan takes care of the heat issue without the makeover. Or are you thinking Asus should retool.I had the RT-AC87U and it was a good router speed and range wise but it jut ran way to hot for my liking. CPU was hitting 80 degrees most of the time and was very hard to cool down - and I knew it just wouldn't last long that hot. For the price you pay you want the router to last you. So I returned it and got the RT-AC3200. With a 120mm USB fan underneath this router runs nice and cool but the problem I have is the 2.4GHz band has issues where it slows down a hell of a lot even while running cool - and have to reboot to resolve. I just think the AC87U in the AC3200 would run a lot cooler and the end product will be a better router.

Sounds like killing one bird with two stones, LOL!
$500.00+ of routers to make one cool one. Something about the math does not add up. Would think you could come up with a better home wireless action plan for those $$$$$It's a REALLY tough bird.
