AC87U not supporting WPA2 Enterprise?

Hello all,

I had WPA2 Enterprise working nice on all my AC68U and AC66U for wireless authentication. But seems like AC87U has dropped support for WPA2 Enterprise ? Any chance of it getting re-enabled?

Many thanks.

So, i dont really know why WPA2-Enterprise is not enabled on the 5 GHz band. this kind of pissed me off, considering the way i wanted to set up my home network, especially since the router is advertised as supporting this method of security (WITHOUT any mention that the 5 GHz band is excluded).

I asked asus what the deal was, they informed me that it will be enabled in a future revision of the firmware, but this took a little back and forth to get to the point where they gave actual feedback. They told me they elevated it to engineering and that was the response that was given.

I guess I'd like to know if anyone thinks asus customer service is known for blowing smoke, or if they're actually pretty trustworthy...

Or can anyone tell me if asuswrt-merlin supports it on the 5GHz band?

WPA2 support is unchanged in my firmware.

The problem with the RT-AC87U is that the 5 GHz band is handled by a totally separate chip, with its own CPU and separate firmware. This complex architecture makes it more tricky to implement certain features, such a Repeater mode or WPA2 Enterprise support.

Thanks for the feed back on your firmware merlin. When I searched I didn't realize this thread was in your firmware subforum.

I figured the new chip for the other band is the complicating factor, hopefully asuswrt will support it soon enough, and subsequently, you.

Once Asus implements it on their end, it will end up in my own firmware when I merge the newer Asus code in.

Hello, All,

Just registered to ask, I got this router (rt87u) today, and found it still (in year 2016) does not have enterprise support for 5ghz. Anyone have info on this function to be added? If I knew this earlier I wouldn't buy this model. I use enterprise 5ghz all the time, but now it is very bad surprise for me.
