AC88u with XD4 aimesh enable AX possible?

Hello I have an AC88U and recently purchased XD4's which work great in AI mesh mode. I do notice that they are only connecting clients via AC mode only.

Is it possible to have the XD4's use AX or am I just limited by the highest setting from my AC88u which is AC and WPA2.

I would like to add to this......
Can I buy an XD4 set to use for the wireless only off the AC88?

Questions would be.....
Can I disable WiFi on the AC88u and only use the mesh? Setup the main XD4 as an access point and then setup AiMesh on it?

It's a great price point I think and the AC88u is still a strong router.
