Access SSH behind router via VPN?

Hi guys - have an Asus AC66U stock firmware (but latest) running VPN server. I VPN in and can ping my machines but am running a linux machine with SSH enabled for console access. I cannot get to it. I can ping the IP but get an instant "network connection refused" from Putty as soon as I try. I've tried DMZ, forwarding port 22, etc. but nothing works.

Thoughts?

Your SSH server's firewall might be rejecting connections coming from a VPN clients since they would be from a different subnet.

I think you're right Merlin - it's actually a Beaglebone Black device I am trying to VPN in and SSH to control things. I will have to check the SSH server running on it and see how locked down it is.

Might be you did not correctly setup SSH I'd suggest to check your setting or take guide from http://www.bestvpnservice.com/blog/how-to-setup-ssh-vpn-on-windows for Steps to set up SSH on windows.. hope it will help you..

The Beagle Bone runs Angstrom linux and runs its own SSH server. To connect any where from within my home I just open Putty and go to 192.168.1.3 - however, I can ping that IP from my VPN but cannot SSH into it.
