I set my network up with no AC router, I was getting average 20mbs while playing zack and miri make a porno via plex via my NVIDIA SHIELD.
The SHIELD is connected via cable to the AC, so was previously using WiFi to reach the AX downstairs - I can't stream anything 4k cause of stuttering, so I added my old AC as a mesh repeater. The problem is, the only place for it is right next to where the SHIELD is - but I figured the range on the WiFi for the AC would be better and then repeat it to the SHIELD.

I added it, and was getting 200mbs average.

I clicked "Optimization", and now it's back down to 20mbs (shown as setup in the pics above, however helpful they are.)

The SHIELD is using the ethernet cable to the AC, so its connection to the network doesn't change when I optimize it, the only change would be wireless only devices, and the AC to the AX connection itself.

So, any idea what exactly it changed to cause this, and how to best resolve it?

I've tried things like, turning the 2ghz radio off each and only using the 5g, vice versa, etc, I can't figure it out. Rather than setting it up again which won't take long and might fix it easily, I'd like to also find out why/what happened here anyway.

Thanks in advance.

As I interpret your post, your media player is wired to the AC68U node, and that node is shared wireless backhaul to the AX86U Pro router. The old/slow AC68U plus shared wireless backhaul may not be fast enough, causing the media player to stutter when trying to stream 4K content.

One thing to try/test... wire the backhaul for 1GbE.

Another thing to try... remove the AC68U node and configure it instead for Media Bridge Mode to connect to the router's 5GHz WLAN. Then you can connect wired clients ONLY to the AC68U... they will enjoy a roughly 2x stronger wireless backhaul connection to the router... this may be sufficient to stream 4K without stuttering.

Find the wireless backhaul connection entry in the router webUI Wireless Log to review connection details and performance. Given three antennas on the AC68U, the NSS value should be 3 between like routers.... most wireless clients connect at NSS 1 or 2. Check again after you install the AC68U in Media Bridge Mode... you should see roughly 2x stronger Tx/Rx Rates.
