AIMesh node vs Access Point

I do understand that AIMesh offers a single point to manage an entire network and the abilty to have wireless nodes, which is an extremely attractive proposition. I also have seen some indicate that AP mode is more stable.

When both devices are on Ethernet, if one configures a Router and AP with the same SSIDs and keys, along with the same config as AImesh, is there any functional differences as far as the client's are concerned?
Specifically will the clients connect and roam any different in AIMesh as opposed to AP mode?

FWIW, I am using 2 RT-AC1900P devices.

+ not manufacturer bounded
+ full access to AP GUI
+ more control, can be set on different Wi-Fi channels
- guest network, doesn't work in AP mode
- wired only

AiMesh
+ central management
+ guest network to node
+ can be wired and wireless
+ easier to setup, virtually no node configuration
- uses the same Wi-Fi channels
- less stable, if mixed routers used

Pretty much as I had hoped, other than the lack of Guest LAN on the AP. It's in the interface; I just assumed that it worked, but it does not isolate like the router. Very gald you included the bullet point. A bit of a bummer as I had planned to use it.
