New Around Here
Just got my AC56U yesterday. Running well. Previous setup was an old Dell desktop running DDWRT x86 to handle the heavy lifting of VPN and a Linksys E2000 as an AP.

Anyway, AirVPN has some tutorials, but not specifically for the Merlin FW. Can anyone give me some pointers? I was able to just upload the ovpn file to the router for the server and certs. I need all the other stuff like DNS settings and firewall rules.

I dropped DDWRT x86 because it was just not user friendly. I can navigate network stuff pretty well when I have good instructions, but networking doesn't really tickle my learning bone so I don't dive into learning much about it.

I use AirVPN mainly for masking torrent downloads which I rarely do anymore. The biggest thing is spoofing my location for streaming. Mainly WatchEPSN when they blackout local sporting events.

I would also need to know how to exempt certain devices from using the VPN, like the PS3 or Roku.

all you have to do is upload the config for the server you want. Then change "accept DNS configuration" to "exclusive". Click apply. Then turn it on. Look in the system log for the progress of the connection.

regarding the special routing you want for some devices, there are plenty of threads about that in this forum.

Thanks. Much much easier than on DDWRT.

So the ovpn file has all of the needed instructions for the router?

Also my current setup is set to use all the America servers and supposedly the router pings all the servers and is supposed to select the best ones. I guess if I wanted to login to a certain server I would just re-download the ovpn file generated by AirVPN for using a specific server, upload, then apply?

Having a hard time finding things about excluding certain MAC addresses due to the search function excluding MAC from the search due to being too short.

the region configs just connect you to the least busy server in that region as far as I know. the openvpn client has no capability to ping all the servers and choose.

Hi. So i see you got a rt-ac56u. Welcome to the club :). Do you have any issues using the usb on it. Does it seems to see your hdd or usb. Because mine is having trouble and just want to know from your side if you had any trouble.

No. I probably won't use either on my network. I have a USB fan on the way for cooling purposes. That is all.
