Another way to remote-reboot?

Hey all - hopefully easy question. I'm remote-managing my in-laws' AC86U through a VPN server. Problem is, I can't SSH in right now, with the system log in the GUI saying "dropbear: resource temporarily unavailable. vfork: resource temporarily available."

The obvious solution is to reboot the router, but the "Reboot" button in the GUI isn't working, and although I have a weekly scheduled reboot, I see the system uptime is 63 days, so that's not working either.

Before I ask old people to find the box behind their TV and locate the tiny power button, anyone else have an idea regarding rebooting from 2000 miles away?

Another way to trigger a reboot is to change the USB mode on the Administration / System page. But I expect the router won’t react to the reboot request anyway. But it might be worth a shot.

Yeah unfortunately that didn't work. Fortunately the phone-enabled manual reboot was successful. Thanks!

You might consider adding an Internet controllable reset switch such as this (it is also available as two outlet model so that you can separately control router and modem):

That's interesting, I'll have a look.

Also interesting... it looks like my DDNS Let's Encrypt certificate expired during this 63-day uptime rather than auto-renewing... anyone know if I can force-renew it now? It's been two days since the manual power cycle and it hasn't renewed yet...

This is a long shot, but my MEO fiber connects to a combo wireless router. My Asus router, and the service throughout the house is bridged to one of the LAN ports on the combo box, so I get a public IP address. But I also have the MEO wireless network, so I have wifi switches connected to it. That way, if the Asus router hangs (and it has), I can do a power cycle of the router. A lot cheaper.
