I have been trying to find a way to setup DDNS in AP mode on my AC66U with Merlin FW. I have a Verizon FOIS modem/router, and I only use RT-AC66U wifi router. The wifi function on my modem is turn off. I have tried ASUS , Tomato Shibby, DD-WRT and Lerlin's FW. I was able to get Shibby FW/DD-WRT working. However, DDNS function is turn off in both ASUS and Merlin FW. Is there anyway to turn it on or maybe script?

Thanks.

DDNS is not supported in AP mode because Asus's implementation relies on having a WAN interface on the router.

Thank you for such a fast reply. I do not understand how come I was able to get it work on Shibby fw?

Shibby doesn't rely on the WAN interface, it relies on the remote endpoint to determine the IP address. Benefit of Shibby's is it works in such scenarios. Benefits of Asus's is they can immediately handle WAN IP changes rather than rely on a timer or issuing blind update requests that can lead to blacklisting by the DDNS service.

I see. Any script can be added on your FW to achieve the same thing? By the way, SSH is off also in AP mode. Thank you very much Eric.

Are you sure? I can access my AP-mode RT-N66U via SSH. You very likely need to manually assign a LAN IP to the AP, if you did not.

I am using john's fork though, so my experience may differ from yours. The GUI option to enable SSH is available in both router & AP-mode.

Nulluty, which release do you have on your Router? Link? Thanks.

Though, I would expect merlin's to be no different. Are you sure merlin's latest firmware does not have the option to enable SSH in AP-mode?

You should at least be able to manually surf to the web-page that has the Enable SSH option.

Make sure to read about the details involved with down-grading your firmware if you decide to go that route.

You don't have to switch firmware for a simple function like SSHD.

The stock and merlin has it built in. But when you switch to AP mode, you have to manually turn it on again on the Admin page. Stupid, isn't it?

You can also update Asus DDNS in AP mode with a simple script.

You are correct about the SSH. Could you please share your script for DDNS? Will Aicloud work in AP mode?
