Apple TV 3 and ASUS RT-AC3200

Hi All,

I recently purchased a ASUS RT-AC3200 to replace my RT-AC68U. With my 68U I was always able to connect all devices wirelessly to the 2,4 and 5 GHZ channels.

With my AC3200 I am having difficulty. While I am able to connect Apple laptops and iPhone to the the 2.4 and 5 GHZ bands there are number of devices that will not connect wirelessly.

One of the devices that will no connect is the Apple TV3. I have attempted the ATV3 and the router but still unable to connect. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what I should next try to get my devices to connect?

Basic questions that need to be addressed:

Firmware version? have you power cycled the router? Static ip?

Answers to your question:
  • New router May 22, 2016. Firmware updated upon installation. In anywise, firmware version is 3.0.0.4.378_9529.
  • Power Cycled the router and the ATV 3 was one of the first things I tried.
  • Static IP. Never required that in the past. Why now?

Does new ssid's work (you can use the same passwords)?

After flashing new firmware, did you reset to factory defaults and then minimally and manually configure the router to secure it and connect to your ISP?

The first thing I would do is to turn off "smart" connect. I always name my three radios with the same ssid and let the object trying to connect to select what it wants. Working great on my RT5300 with smart connect turned off.
 
For whatever it is worth, I have Smart Connect on and have never had difficulty with our Apple TV third generation connecting to the wifi. We also have three Rokus, an iMac, 3 MacBook Pros, and a Mac Mini that are able to connect fine. I would suspect that there is an issue specific to the wireless signal between your Apple TV and the router.

For troubleshooting purposes, you might try giving each radio (2.4, 5-1 and 5-2) a unique SSID so you can determine if it is unable to connect to all or only some of those bands.
