Hi all. I have been having an issue for months with my OpenVPN on my Asus router. I have a NAS at home (Call it N1) and a NAS at my inlaws (Call it N2). N1 backs up to N2 nightly across an openVPN connection. This usually works without issue however... if there is ever even the tiniest hiccup with the internet connection and it drops for a moment, N2 reconnects to the router and the router then keeps both sessions active causing the backup to fail. Just recreated it now by a quick connect and reconnect.

192.168.x.x ( 142.163.x.x:35412 )
192.168.x.x ( 142.163.x.x:52513 )

I do not know how to stop it from doing this and its driving me mad.

only custom configs I have are:

username-as-common-name
client-config-dir /jffs/openvpn/ccd
client-to-client
topology subnet
push "dhcp-option DOMAIN x.x"
push "dhcp-option DNS 192.168.x.x"
push "register-dns"

A little more detail about which device is hosting the OpenVPN server and which the OpenVPN client would be helpful. Just saying you have OpenVPN on your router and an OpenVPN connection is a bit vague.

The reason I'm asking is because it would probably prove to be more reliable if only the routers hosted the OpenVPN connection. And I suspect that one or the other NAS devices is the OpenVPN client.
