Asus AC56U and Telus Optik IPTV

Does anyone have this type of configuration working on their Asus router with Telus Optik IPTV? My issue is configuring the router to not flood my LAN with multicast traffic when more than 1 STB is on. When more than 1 STB is on, the picture stutters on all TVs, and my LAN becomes usable so Internet does not function.

My STBs are wireless which connects to a Cisco VAP. I have tried enabling QoS on my STB/VAP devices but it doesn't help since QoS only controls LAN to WAN traffic. I also believe that multicast routing and snooping does not work since my LAN is flooded when watching TV with more than 1 STB.

VLANs don't exactly work here so my STBs are wireless. I had used the IPTV profile one time and was able to isolate 1 port with the VAP connected to the isolated port on the router. This stabilized the picture when 2 STBs are on but it killed my Internet access on my other devices.

Ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Just an update for any one having the same issue.

The high ping times is due to multi-casting traffic flooding the LAN when 2 or more IPTVs are on. This is despite turning on multi-cast snooping and smart routing. I believe part of the issue is because the VAP and PVR are plugged into my unmanaged HP switch which floods the LAN anyway.

Now for the solution. You will need to VLAN off 1 or more ports on the router specifically for IPTV. Plug your PVR and/or VAP directly to the router ports. This will segregate the multicast traffic from flooding the LAN. It is VERY IMPORTANT to power off all IPTV gear first, VLAN off your ports under the IPTV section in the GUI, plug your network cables int the router, then power on your VAP and PVR. After the VAP is online, you can then plug your wireless set top boxes.
