I always run Merlin FW on my routers and my current Asus AX88U Pro is no exception. But I was wondering, since Merlin does not yet support AsusWRT 5.0 with 3.0.0.6 Kernel (which has been out there for a while now) would there be any advantages in running AsusWRT 5.0 on my router?

I use VPN (client and server) and run two Asus AX86U AiMesh nodes (with stock firmware) and appreciate rock solid stability and performance of the Merlin FW. I don't need VLANs supported in AsusWRT 5.0 at this point. Just wondering if any of you find any advantages in running AsusWRT 5.0 over Merlin?

Thanks for any input on this...

Save your Asuswrt-Merlin configuration, flash stock Asuswrt, see what you like better. If you want to go to back to Asuswrt-Merlin - use the saved configuration. Don't forget to reset the router to factory defaults on firmware change. Your router has four Asuswrt 5.0 releases already, the base code is newer, has Guest Network Pro and VLANs support to LAN ports, etc. It depends on what you need. Most people are okay with Asuswrt features. At least take a look and decide what works best for you. What others run on their routers - their personal choice. Make your choice.

personally, i'm not a fan of "fusion." clunky interface and doesn't allow me the same flexibility as merlinware. been using merlin's tweaked vpn ui for years now on my ac/ax86u and it's been fairly solid. he recently tweaked it to provide a killswitch function.

now, i just got this used gt-ax (a fraternal twin of the ax88u pro) a few days ago and only glanced at its stockware before loading up with mware and yeah, i'm lovin' it!
