Asus GT-AX11000 Not Achieving Full WAN Throughput

Been pulling my hair out for a few hours after upgrading my Spectrum internet service to their "Internet Gig" max tier, which is confirmed to yield ~840 down and 40 up when connected via 1 Gbps ethernet from Spectrum-provided modem to a PC with a full duplex 1 Gbps card.

Upon enabling and connecting the Asus AX11000 as the middleman, throughput on speedtest.net plummets to around 400 down and maintains the 40 up.

Asus GUI shows no major CPU/RAM overhead during testing, QOS is off, AI protection is on and WAN is indicated to be 1 Gbps in the GUI.

Anyone have any familiarity with this kind of an issue, and if at all possible, something I can do to close the delta between what the modem is clearly yielding and what the router is evidently pulling?
 
Try a full factory reset on the router and setup from scratch. Be sure to not enable anything after setting up the router. Just connect 1 wired PC to the back of the router and speedtest.

It's well capable of providing near 900Mbps +- speeds.

What FW version are you using?

I'm having a similar issue, but with Google Fiber and the last 2 firmwares introducing buffer bloat and my gig/gig taking a huge hit. ASUS hasn't been very helpful, and even the CEO Office has gotten quiet in my email chains about it. So I've just been running on 3.0.0.4.384_5979, for now.

So I've just been running on 3.0.0.4.384_5979, The only way bufferbloat can be Addressed is for Asus to use Smart Queue Management system I cant see them putting it in the firmware at the moment because they are still in the stone age with Qos at the moment

What did you use for this test? I’m curious to test mine. I have no Ethernet enabled laptop to plug in and test with though. I switched from a NETGEAR rax120 and they had a built in speed test to test the speed coming from the modem to the router.

I spotted this thread when looking for something else. I note your frustration. I had a similar problem until I was told that the problem was with QoS. QoS is only of any use if your ISP connection is less than 600Mb for sharing out bandwidth fairly between all your devices. QoS pegged my downstream back to about 400Mb. Solution? Don't deploy QoS.

I wanted to ask if you are still on that same firmware version or have updated recently and still getting those speeds?
 
No I'm currently using 3.0.0.4.384_9165 as it's been mostly stable. However I use my GT in wireless bridge mode for most of my needs. I have seen near 900Mpbs thru the GT in wireless bridge mode with what I have loaded. I see 3.0.0.4.384.9566 is available.

I wanted to ask if you are still on that same firmware version or have updated recently and still getting those speeds?

So if I have I gig connection I can't use qos?, qos does not reach 1 gig speeds?

Most QoS doesn't. One 1Gb ISP speeds QoS isn't needed as there is plenty of bandwidth for devices to get data flow from.
 
Don't assume just because you have high download speeds you don't need QoS that's a myth. If you have asymmetrical speeds you may in some cases still need QoS, for example my ISP Comcast gives 1.2-1.4 gbps downlink on their gig profile but only 40-50 Mbps for upload so if your upload is being saturated by one or two clients, say for example they are uploading a large number of files or photos etc, it's still going to have a big impact on latency. I still use QoS for that reason, well limiters more so in my case on the upload side.

Since Spectrum is also pretty asymmetrical you may still get benefit from QoS or limiters.

I have same Service here. 1G down and 50 up. Haven't seen a need for QOS.
