New Around Here
Hello,

I have just purchased this router, I have tried Wireless router mode which is working fine with internet cable but when I try to switch it as Repeater Mode, it works for about 5 min and then all new devices get stuck at "obtaining IP address" seems it cannot reach to the DHCP which is strange cause the other(Main) router can still issue IP address.

one of temporary remedy was to try to split 2.4GHz and 5GHz which solve it for about 30 min only but then shows the same error again.

any workaround guys? is my unit faulty or something?

You are facing problems with 2.4g radio that are widely described at this forum.

I thought the problem with 2.4g radio is about signal dropping and disappearing which I don't have. the wifi signal is always strong and if I try to avoid DHCP by using static IP it will connect successfully (although i'm not sure if I will have internet connectivity).

Generally no, you are wrong.

When repeater or media bridge mode are selected, wifi can connect but can't obtain own iP.
Just for confirmation switch your unit to the router mode and check behaviiur of 2.4 radio.

I will check today, sometimes 2.4 was dropping and I fixed it by reset and 20 MHz. I will try to keep it by default now and see what happen

Is your router from european or chinese distribution?

My own also from gearbest, but do not worry.

They have quite good refund policy.

Today i received brand new 86u from european distribition and after a whileof configuration everything works well.

I discover something today since my router is from China I have noticed that under 'professional' tab on wireless setting there is an option for regions which was set by default to China, I thought this one is just a location info, turns out that actually hides lots of 2.4/5Ghz channels. after I swapped to Asia I immediately notice the result, both 2.4/5Ghz is stable now and actually cover more area especially for 5Ghz which I'm surprised about it
