From what I've read, there is not a big advantage except for the model name. Hardware specs for both, similar, and there isn't a huge improvement except for AC. Unless you have devices that will support AC then, get the N66U.

The amount of flash on N66U is 32MB, where 66U has 128mb also.

Thanks...Ok, are we talking RT-N66U w/32mb and RT-AC66U w/128mb? I'm going to run Merlin and want to run some code, not much but have the ability. How much of the flash is left for running code?

Sorry, just a little confused.

AC68U has a powerful dual core arm CPU, and you can easily clock it to 1Ghz.. N66U is mipsel single core 600Mhz based (660 max clock).

I had N66U and now I have AC68U, and the AC has a better 5Ghz wifi range.
2.4 band coverage is similar..

USB3.0 of AC68U is "3.0" ... is 2.0 speed, due to a bug to the hardware implementation..

AC... yes.. nice feature if you have AC client... but N66U has entware and optware repository...

Ok, got a

I bought a 68R, same as the 68U, an R means it came from BestBuy. Correct me if I'm wrong....

It's exactly the same according to Asus tech support. Both have 3 year warranty too.

Anyway, you're saying the USB 3 port is really a USB 2 due to some hardware design problem? That sounds like a warranty issue.

Too many choices. I just bit the bullet and bypassed the 66, might as well start with the almost latest stuff...right?

I can hit over 50 MB/s with USB 3.0 on the AC68. This is beyond USB 2.0 specs (480 Mbps).

Thanks for that...

By the way, is there a sort of tutorial on running scripts or code on these, are some a 1 time run, other running, that sort of thing? Where are things stored on the router, nvram, so one and so forth?

With or without 2.4Ghz enable / option "Reducing USB 3.0 interference" is best to set it enable or disable?

When you enable the USB 3.0 interference reduction option, you force the port to operate as a USB 2.0 port.

Yes but what about wifi interference? Is your 2.4Ghz band disabled?
I had no time to test this.. sorry.. I had set this option to enabled without testing it to disable...

Ok I did few tests..but if I disable this option samba configuration page, when I try to access it, crash and crash web daemon too (I have restart it using service restart_httpd command).
Usb3 option disk, I'm using a wd my passport 0810, now is back to "Enable" :-(
