As general rule: don't ask the why question.
If you benefit from what happens: accept and enjoy it.
If you don't benefit from what happens: find a way to fix it, revert to the old situation or find a workaround.

This is weird.

It's weird how many attempts Asus needs to fix the same issues:

The first fix wasn't good enough and needed another shortly after?

This is weird. Why non-security updates for a device that is supposedly EOL?
They wanted to fix the security issues, and it was probably easier to push along the non-security fixes as part of a common, shared code base. Or, they just love you :)

Numbers 3 and 4 sound security related...

I replaced mine a long time ago with a RT-AX5400 which seems to fly off the shelves at my local MicroCenter...

I don't trust release notes too much of consumer products: they often seems copy / paste from previous release notes with some additions, and most times I suspect them from being far from complete (specially when the build number makes a leap compared to the previous public release).
I know my self with what ever software, code or documents I am editing: it is never perfect, I keep making changes and it is easy to break 2 things while making 3 fixes (and hard to remember all the minor fixes you make on the fly).
Again, don't ask why
