New Around Here
Hi guys,

Hopefully someone can help here. I got an RT-AC68U about 2 weeks ago. I connected it to my Thomson DG587 v3 which I put in to bridge mode. I have just set up the Asus router by following the quick set up, no other changes.

Ever since I got this router, certain apps on a few of my Android devices won't update/load/refresh when I'm on wifi. For example, if I open Instagram, the main feed loads, but the notifications won't load, it just spins trying to load forever. Another example is Flipboard, when I open the app it doesn't update any of the content, again this happens on wifi only. I also use a podcast app called pocket casts which does the same thing, when I open it it tries to refresh and look for new episodes but just hangs.

This is happening on 2 phones and my Nexus 7, all of which worked fine before I got this router and in the case of the phones, if I turn off wifi everything works fine.

I have tried all devices on other wifi networks since the issue started happening and they all work fine, so it seems isolated to my wifi network.

To further complicate things, if I close any of the affected apps, then clear them out of the recently opened apps using the app switcher button (so removing them from the device cache) most of the time they will work properly the next time I open them, but then every subsequent time I open them the issue comes back.

Also, sometimes just hitting the refresh button in the affected apps can cause them to work.

Really weird issue and has me stumped, hopefully someone might have some insight??

Thanks

Did you 'forget' the network connections on each device and re-associate the devices?

Or; make a new ssid for the 2.4GHz band and the 5GHz band and see if the issue persists.

If you happened to upgrade the firmware on the router; before you do the steps above you may want to do a reset to defaults (in the web gui) and manually power off and power on the router (don't do a reboot via the gui).

I'll give that a shot.

The firmware is the current available from ASUS.

I might enable guest networks on 2.4 & 5GHz and connect to them. Hopefully I can get to the bottom of it.

Traffic for an app like Instagram would all be going to the same port right? Like the main feed and the notifications feed wouldn't be two different ports? Just thought maybe the router was blocking one of the ports for some reason...

Although I doubt this is the fix to your problem I did have an odd android issue right after Christmas. This started on my WNDLR4500 Netgear and continued when replaced with the Asus 68u. Anything the Acer tablets tried to download from Google Play spun like you describe although the 2 Samsung tablets and 4 Sony phones all worked fine.

Turns out it was my ISP auto DNS setup. Changed it in both routers to the Google one (although other free public DNS servers exist) and they all work now.

Like I said, not quite what your describing, but might help some.

Thanks. Might give that a shot.

I tried all of the above and the problem still remains.

I even tried installing the newest stable Merlin firmware as I had seen a few people mention it was solid and in some cases better than stock, but it's just the same.

PR1MO, I now have the same problem as you do. Were you able to fix this? I decided to try Merlin firmware, but that didn't do the trick either.
