Requires 160 Mhz wide channels.
Balls.. Well thanks for clearing that up...
Requires 160 Mhz wide channels.
I purchased and set it up. Immediately put Merlin’s 384.6 on it. Seems to be running fine although upload is slower than normal. Should I change any settings or keep what Merlin has set through his FW?

Brand new Ac86 here. Is it normal that with this model, to access the GUI, the default IP address is now 192.168.50.1?
I put it back on 192.168.1.1 as my other 3 routers asus that I had before.
There is a forum here for Merlin FW.
OE
No I do not think it makes any difference. I was just surprised after doing the initial config, to have no more access to the GUI with 192.168.1.1.That makes no difference I assume correct?
I dont know if its specific for AC86, but all my other Asus routers, (N66,Ac68,Rt1900P) was under .1.1Specific to the 86U settings?
some 86U have 50.1 per default, others 1.1 like most asus routers, what I read till now chinese versions have default 50 , US 1.
https://www.snbforums.com/threads/preview-early-asuswrt-merlin-384-6-test-builds-are-available.47385/page-14I've seen 4 86Us bought in the US, 2 from Micro Center and 2 from BestBuy... they default to English and have many other language options... and they all default to LAN IP 192.168.50.1.
I bought an AC86U and Blue Cave to test their performance and set up a mesh later. I started with the AC86U since that should become my main router.
Did the initial settings and out it in the same place as my almost antique R7000. I tested several spots in my house before with the R7000, close, far, other floors and then again with the AC86U.
To my surprise the AC86U had lower signal strength in ALL areas and the speeds were also significantly lower then on the R7000.
I did notice that my unit has a production date somewhere in 2017. Wefe there any changes in hardware the last year on this AC86U?
I didn't even dare install the Blue Cave after this result...
Yes.Doesn't sound right. Were your channels and other settings the same between the two?
Yes.
Reset it to factory defaults and put it back in the box for shipment back to the shop. The Blue Cave is supposedly similar so that is going back as well.
Line of sight at three meters distance I didn't get more than 100 Mbps on this thing...
Maybe I'll just get a new Netgear...
I might test the Blue Cave tomorrow and see how that holds up. If the results are similar at least I can say it's not a defective unit.Something definitely not right. The AC86U is a very capable router.
