ASUS RT AC87 5ghz being disabled after enabling QoS and Jumbo Frame Switching

Hi,

I just got this beast of a router that I want to love but there are just somethings that drives me batty. One such thing is that even with the latest Firmware from RMERLIN and ASUS my 5 GHz channel is being disabled whenever I enable either QoS or jumbo frame. I have tried the ole reboot the router to recovery mode and then cycle it trick to no avail.

The only thing that works to restore the 5 GHz channel is to restore the router to factory default. Am I going crazy or do I have to regress to pre-Quantenna's new driver? Can any one help?

Make sure you only use alphanumerics in your SSID and your WPA keys.

Hello, I figured this out. It appears that my near paranoia like sense of security made the 5GHz crash. I found out if your SSID or your shared Pass-Key has the following characters: "<>'& it will somehow kill that Wireless network.

I think in the firmware these characters are not being escaped properly or something weird is happening. If RMerlin or any ASUS folks are reading this post can you please add some kind of check against these characters? Nearly lost a lot of sleep. Will try to revert back to RMerlin's firmware of: 376.47 since I am fond of some of the things he does in his firmware.

Hope that this miss-hap of mine helps other folks.
