You may want to give the Netgear R-7000 a look. I used nothing but Asus routers for years and i decided to try the Nighthawk and i can say it works great strong signals full speeds no issues. Not trying to promote Netgear here just making a valid statement from my experience.

Hi Kel:

I'll think about that, thanks. I'm certainly up for opinions.

Have a look at Amazon though for the C9, pretty well not a single connection or performance issue. I have found from previous gadget buys to look at the proportion of one and two star ratings as this is where your potential showstopper issues reside.

Amazon on the R7000 reports over 25% one and two star ratings which isn't encouraging.

Wireless retests are coming for the C9, C8, Buffalo WXR-1900DHP and ASUS RT-AC68.
All these "standup" routers' antennas were above the test chamber antennas, possibly leading to lower results.

Retest of the C9 shows significantly improved 5 GHz performance, about the same performance for 2.4 GHz.

Tim, have you done this already for the 68U? I see that the 68U is showing higher throughput than the 87U in the charts for 5GHz now:

None of the latest retest results have been posted yet. But the AC68U has already been retested twice since the original review.
