I used to be Linksys user and recently Netgear owner of R7000. after reading this forum, I ran out and got a new ASUS RT-AC87U. I like Asus web UI alot more compared to linksys and Netgear. but I found one limitation of parental control.

when I use time scheduling, it does not give me an option to block specific sites. it blocks everything within the scheduled time. If I use app filter, it does not allow scheduled time. In other words, Asus either blocks a site all the time or blocks everything within scheduled time. there is no option to combine both: sites and time.

For example, I want to block youtube between 9PM to 12AM. I can't do this with Asus. Linksys and Netgear can do this.

Can someone confirm this limit? or am I missing something.

I agree there needs to be a way to block specific sites under parental controls. Asus parental controls is the main reason I am selling two Netgear R7000 routers.

does Netgear R7000 allow you to block specific site in a specific time window?

Netgear had sloppy parental controls. Wasn't able to specify a mac address with a specific time frame. Would have to block everyone and then use their app or website to unblock the devices that I did not want effected.

Netgear's parental controls are about the worst ones on the market, both by network security professionals but by Consumer Reports and other reviewers Very sloppy, done by 3rd party OpenDNS, but only ½ the functionality of doing it directly through OpenDNS.com. It's not just the Netgear R7000, but all the Netgear routers use that same partially baked version of OpenDNS's full parental controls. I haven't played with the ones on the new 87U yet, but Netgear's are so easy for a 7 year old child to bypass its ridiculous (my neighbor's 8 year old did it in less than 10 minutes).
