Hello to all

I'm just experiencing a brand new behaviour in my LAN with the Pro as a Master and the non Pro as Node:
Since years I'm streaming PC content on my TVs via DLNA using Universal Media Server without problems, two days ago, without any PC nor LAN settings changes, all TVs disconnecting after 150 seconds even if you're watching either a 400Mb video or 25Gb ones

What make me more crazy is this issue happen also in my parents house, 90 Km so far, with an ASUS RT-AC86U

Now, there are just three things in common between these two LANs:
1. All modem/routers are ASUS brand
2. All TVs are Samsung brand
3. All ASUS modem/routers are with Merlin firmware

  • The streaming PCs are both desktop ones, so the energy save options are disabled since years
  • My ASUS routers had been rolled back to the original latest ASUS firmware, with no fix
  • One TV had been restored via Samsung support remote control (with a factory reset) to the original settings , with no fix
Now, I was trying right now to start a stream on a TV and, in real time, watching the Wireless Log to looking for any info can help me to find a solution and I discovered that at least ten connected devices are NOT listed, TV included
Is that a bug?

Thanks in advance

2. All TVs are Samsung brand
Samsung is pushing out a significant firmware update version 2000.2

Samsung is pushing out a significant firmware update version 2000.2

Thanks, but if you consider that:

- TV 43" RU7175 2019 with the latest firmware (1420), since march 2024 was working fine with DLNA until yesterday
- TV 50" AU9070 2021 with the latest firmware (2210.1), since march 2024 was working fine with DLNA until yesterday
- TV 65" RU8000 2019 with the latest firmware (1420), since march 2024 was working fine with DLNA until yesterday

why, without touching anything, now all these TVs are not working anymore with DLNA?

But the main reason of this topic is why the wireless log of my ASUS is showing only half of the connected devices?
Is that a bug??

Network map has been broken since my first router. Asus can't be bothered to fix it, and RMerlin can't fix it. (proprietary code and whatnot - fixing it would be "hacking")

Finally the Wi-Fi is not involved, I just try via ethernet cable and the problem still occur, I'm starting to think that ASUS is not guilty...

Hi, finally I fix it:
No ASUS problem, no firmware problem (original or Merlin one), just a Windows problem!!

Removed the update KB5041580 and everything works

Thanks for your time

How did you find that to be the cause?
That's quite easy:
  1. I had a screenshot of the latest Windows updates done and the image had been saved to another HDD
  2. I connect my external HDD used for system clones (I have a 5Tb HDD were I save a system HDD clone every month, at least)
  3. Restored the drive to a previous cloned image
  4. Checked if the DLNA streaming works: it is
  5. With the previous Windows version I run Windows Update (I set into the Group Policies to don't update automatically)
  6. With the new Windows updates list I did a new screen shot
  7. Compared the two screenshots I got a difference with the updates, wrote down this difference list
  8. With Windows Update Minitool I hided all updates except one
  9. Updated Windows with that update only
  10. Checked if the DLNA streaming works: it is
  11. With Windows Update Minitool I restored another update and repeated step 9 and 10
  12. I did this procedure until no more updates were showed
  13. There were just one Update not listed in "new" Windows Update, downloaded it manually from Windows Update Catalogue and failed to install (maybe that's the reason why it was not showed in Windows Update?)
  14. That update (failed to update) was suspected to be guilty
Since this experience, I stop to perform all Optional Windows Updates, I use the Windows Update Minitool to hide them every time they appear
Since this experience, I clone my system drive always before install new Windows Updates

NOTE: a System HDD clone, either with Acronis or AOMEI, will save you a lot of time also in the worst scenario like a virus (a 205Gb system clone is restored in 8 minutes)
