I use macOS and had the same issue when using Edge\Chrome. I realize you're using Windows, but perhaps there is a setting like on macOS to allow access.

win11 is a bit odd - even with Chrome/Firefox as the default browser, there are Windows apps that will use Edge by redirection

Hello everyone fresh from setting up mesh I cannot access the router GUI using a Dell XPS (13 9370) notebook running Win 10 (build 19045.5247). I can access it using a Samsung Tablet but not Windows which means I cannot for instance install the EZ Print file for setting up a network printer. I would welcome a solution if anyone can assist. Many thanks

Could be a certificate issue with Edge (and perhaps Chrome) on Windows...

They've been cracking down on things like self-signed certs and what not.

Firefox isn't that much different - however there, one can make an exception - and this is cross platform, so Win/Mac/Linux

  • Firefox -> Settings -> Privacy & Security ->
  • under Certificates, click "View Certificates..." ->
  • go to Servers tab and click "Add Exception..." ->
  • click "Get Certificate", then "Confirm Security Exception"
  • optionally tick "Permanently store this exception"

UPDATE: I decided the problem was at my end with my Win 10 OS. It's been a while since I carried out a clean installation, probably going back to Windows XP, so I saw there were new options including one to refresh Windows 10. I chose that option and reinstalled Edge: this enabled me to open the GUI and I successfully reinstalled a mesh. I couldn't get my mobile to connect to the node so I reset all its network settings to solve that problem. I have just added a printer which was a little fiddly, plus I made basic cabling errors, but amazingly I can now move the printer to our downstairs office and print to it from our middle floor living area. Thanks everyone for the assistance. Next, setting up the VPN!

Unfortunately I can't help with your issue but I'm wondering how the AX88U Pro is working out for you overall? I'm thinking about buying one to replace my aging Netgear AC2100 router. From the research I've done it seems like the AX88U Pro is one of the best Wifi 6 routers on the market
To be honest I don't have a techie background so I could hardly offer a meaningful critique of this router. It's a major improvement on what I had before, basically a fibre modem. The AImesh facility means we have been able to extend good internet coverage to the many nooks and crannies of our three story house, containing lots of small rooms, narrow corrdiors with lots of concrete. I love being able to send documents for printing from a device on the middle floor to our printer which we have now located in our ground floor office; previously notwitstanding wifi capacity the most reliable way to print was via a cabled USB cnnection. It's also worth saying there is a lot of support available especially here in SNB. Over the next few days I'll explore setting up the VPN, creating a media server etc, installing the Merlin software ... But the bottom line is the router has improved our overall interconnectivy and we do like the AI mesh capacity.

Next, you need to upgrade that Win 10 laptop to Win 11. PM me if you would like info on how to do that.

Best of luck on sorting that out...

Might be best to nuke it from orbit with a fresh install on Windows...
Actually you can upgrade Win 10 on non hardware compliant equipment and still get Windows updates. I have an old Dell Optiplex 7020 that I upgraded at the beginning of December and it got the 24H2 patch Tuesday update last week. Would be better if the device had a TPM2 module but it works anyway.

Yes, possible. I have 2x PCs with "non-supported" hardware running Windows 11 from 2022. They got locked to 21H2 with Windows Update at one point and needed some more "manual" attention to upgrade further. Otherwise work well with no issues. Information how to do it is readily available online.

What's the need/attraction for W11 over W10?

A bit harder to navigate with worse menus macOS-like UI version of Windows with marketing driven high hardware requirements and Wi-Fi 7 support. Unfortunately, newer PCs come with it and can't be downgraded to less bloated, faster, no ridiculous AI involvement... Windows 10. 🤷‍♂️

I run Windows 11 on my desktops only because I can't downgrade my laptops to Windows 10.

Well, you have less than a year before Win 10 support goes away. Of course you will be able to pay to get security upgrades. I have Win 11 on my laptop but I installed a fresh version to avoid all the Lenovo bloatware. Some times I set it up with dual boot Linux just because I can.

You both have Windows 11 Ready router as well. I don't have that.

Perhaps context - OP is not technical for PC's, etc...

That's why I was saying "good luck mate" - depends on what your time is worth, and what happens when OP is pissed and it doesn't work and flames you, with accountability due to the PM path.

One can dress up Win11 to be a bit more Win10 like - could be worse I suppose, going back to Tile Land of Windows 8

My personal beef with Win11 is Microsoft's insistence of having the TPM 2.0 in hardware - there's probably 200 million PC's that are capable on running win11, but don't meet that requirement.

That's hella e-waste - but we've been there before with the migration from Analog TV over to Digital...

Hmmm - not sure, but Windows tends to be like Star Wars Movies, every other one is best...

Going way back -

Win98 was the bomb, WinMe was a solid nope...
WinNT 3.5.1 (yep), NT 4.0, erm not the best, Win2K was good...

and the transition fron 2K to XP from an NT perspective it was a win, but from 98/Me was a bit rough going from a DOS program launcher to a real OS.

winXP - yeah
winVista - what was that? can you confirm (yes/no)
win7 - yeah
win8 - hell no - tileland baby...
win10 - for the Win!!
win11 - well, let's see

Jury is still out on win11 - but so far, it's more with Win10+ with some restrictions...

Windows 10 still has >60% market share. Windows 11 is at around 36% and mostly because it is forced with new PCs.

Windows 10 retains support till 2032, no matter what MSFT has to say on the subject.

2032 is for LTSC version of Windows 10. I do not know anyone with a LTSC version.
