Asus RT-N66 WebUI Requires Refresh

Jon Halterman

New Around Here
I recently installed/configured my first Asus router and have been having a few issues with the WebUI. It doesn't happen every time, but often I will click on one of the options presented and the page won't load. It seems the javascript behind the page disables all options once you click one and so I am left with either hitting refresh or clicking in the address bar and hitting enter to get the page go load. I'd flashed the router with a recent Merlin build (378.52) when doing the setup. I've seen what seem to be related posts that were solved with configuring ESET (not sure what that is), or using https to access the router UI (when I attempt I get an error). Any assistance would be appreciated as I try to track this down. Thanks.

Yes, seen that - you have to enable https through the web gui, but you get the same issue (and more as problem with signing of old insecure protocols etc). It is not unique to Asuswrt-merlin, try different browsers and clear your browser cache Ctrl-F5 better than just refresh, seen it with many different routers and firmwares - because the web pages come from a known IP same old address, and have similar page/filenames you can sometimes be offered a Linksys front page after loading dd-wrt etc. One issue maybe the router doesn't know the real time when just booted and/or the web pages in the firmware have old timestamps (so browser thinks it has a good cached version?).

ESET is an anti-virus/firewall thing isn't it - expect any PC firewall/ web protector/ adbblocker to have potential to interfere in same way.

I also see dozens of connections to the router when viewing the router gui, not sure whether it is just dumb old httpd on the router or a symptom of browser struggling to read ahead...
