Your router is RT-AC66U, not RT-N66U.

I would flash the one with VPN in the name. It's smaller size and doesn't have things you perhaps won't need.

You have to do router manual hard reset after and one more time clear NVRAM after first FreshTomato boot.

I believe they have instructions somewhere on the website of just find general Asuswrt to Tomato instructions.

Don't rush, takes some time.

Thanks for the advice, I'll give it a shot!

Do, I tried flashing with Tomato and got a message saying as per screen shot below👇

The currently installed fromware is the latest Merlin so Im not sure why I cannot flash with Tomato.

Anyways, Ive stuck with the Merlin for now whilst I increase my knowledge base.

An issue Ive found is that the speed I am getting over ethernet connection from the Asus is significantly lower than the speed I get direct from the hub supplied by my ISP even with it in modem only mode.

Are there any settings I need to adjust on the Asus router to get the same speeds from the ethernet connection or is it a hardware issue?

And a lot of patience. This process may take >30min from start to auto reboot. The tool may time out in the process showing communication lost, but the router will be still in the middle of the process. After some time the router will reboot itself, then hard factory reset is needed, then clear NVRAM one more time in FreshTomato settings.

Long weekend ahead me thinks!👍
