I have 2 issues with my ASUS RT-N66U I'm hoping someone can shed some light on:
1. A year and half ago, I upgraded from my trusty Linksys WRT54GL running Tomato to the ASUS RT-N66U. I used the same SSID / password, to make the transition easier. I was unable to connect my laptop and other devices to the RT-N66U at that point.
I was using an ASUS RT-N16 to test out ASUS routers prior to the transition, and the RT-N16 ran like a champ with the same SSID / password. But after being unable to connect with the RT-N66U, I reverted to the RT-N16, and that router started to have issues too connecting to my wifi devices like my Windows 7 HP laptop.
After extensive tweaking (swapping in Merlin firmware, clearing cache, resetting the routers, etc.,) nothing would work. My laptop and some other devices just wouldn't connect to the same SSID / password on the ASUS Rt-N66U.
So I gave up, and shelved the ASUS.
2. Earlier this year, we upgrade our internet to Cox fiber gigablast (1gb up / down), and Cox gave me a Netgear R6300... I had issues with accessing the cameras outside my wifi network, so just for snits and giggles, I placed the ASUS Rt-n66u in service.
To my surprise, the RT-n66u worked liked a charm!! The SSID / password problem was gone, and all my devices could connect beautifully!!!
The RT-n66u worked like a champ from January to 2 weeks ago, never had an issues. Then 2 weeks ago all devices stopped being able to connect to the wifi network. The phones, laptops, all would try to connect, and then there would be a prompt "enter the password" and after entering the password, nothing would connect.
So we reset the RT-n66u hoping the problem would be resolved. Nope, nothing worked. Wifi was simply not working any more, and we were back to square one.
I have since purchased a new Netgear R6900 from CostCo that appears to work now (after more trials and tribulations - yeesh - http://www.snbforums.com/threads/st...ssues-with-r6300-and-r6900.33074/#post-265358 )...
Thanks to a kind stranger, I resolved the issue with the Netgear routers. But I'm stumped by the issues with the Rt-N66U... why won't it work any more?
Would love some insight on this problem. Thanks!!
