Asus RT-N66U No Wan on Boot or Reboot unless WAN cable is unplugged & plugged

I'm running Merlin 378.54_2 on the Asus RT-N66U router and I have been having this issue the last couple of months. If I reboot the router it will not receive the WAN ip address from the Comcast Modem until I unplug the cable from the WAN port on the N66U and plug it back in. It is driving me crazy. Even if I connect to the router via the WEBUI and run throught the Setup it still will not receive the IP.

Please help me. It has been causing me a big headache.

Unfortunately this endless story has been told many times on this and other forums. Buy a Linksys wrt1900ac or Apple Extreme. There is no fix for the Asus.

There are thousands of Comcast customers out there who have no issue with their Asus router.

First thing to do is actually reset the connection by turning off the modem for about 10 minutes. That way, if your ISP still had memorized the MAC address of either your previous router or any computer you had directly plugged to it, it will be forgotten.

You must also ensure you are not trying to clone your MAC address, on the WAN page - that was the cause of this problem for some users.

Finally, you can try setting DHCP frequency to Normal instead of Aggressive. That setting causes issues with Charter, it might possibly cause issues with other ISPs as well.

I think I fixed it. I didn't know I had MAC Address cloning turned on. There was an address in the field but I did not set it. I removed it and i think all is well now. Thank you
