Hi there,

I am just curious if most people with the ASUS RT-N66U are using the stand or just laying it flat. Other than being able to see the LED's and having easier access to the connections is there any advantage to having the router on the stand? Possiblt runs cooler?

Cheers!

Wayne

Yes; on the stand. Because it runs cooler, looks cooler and has better reach too. :)

Thanks

Appreciate the reply guys,

I now have mine on the stand. I will monitor the temperature to see if there is any difference.

Cheers!

New temp readings

Within less than an hour the temp for 2.4 & 5ghz has dropped by 2 degrees C.:)

Cheers!

So it looks cooler with ugly wires sticking out the top? I laid mine flat due to the wire set up. Looks horrible IMO. And I see no difference in temp.

Have to agree, the looks leave a lot to be desired when using the stand, but it runs cooler that way here.

Not sure why the router designers are so averse to cooling vents on the top horizontal surface of a router...they could be worked into the design, especially in with the prevailing black color. Putting the vents on the bottom and on vertical sides is just asking for heat buildup when the router is laying horizontally. They fixed this on the R7000 by having the side wings with vents on the top for flow-through ventilation (heat rises, guys), and it runs cool horizontally. Too bad Netgear design capabilities don't run to firmware.

Lol... I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder then.

To me it looks cooler because it's more functional (higher antenna).

Laying it flat seems like a lazy dog in the summer heat, comparatively. :)

Yep i love the way it looks on the stand.. Never fails to get a comment when i have people over. :D

First time I saw an RT-N56U I wasn't too sure on the diamond pattern. Now that Asus has semi-standardized on it (even the RT-N12D1 now has it), it has grown on me. It certainly stands out.

Mine won't even stay on the stand. It keeps coming right off. I looked for instructions on how to put it on but I could not find any.

i think mine looks pretty sexy... but i will never buy an asus router that is not wall mountable.
