New Around Here
Hi,

Been using Merlin's builds for a few years now and everything has been ticking over quite nicely on my router.

A few weeks ago I went to update to the latest version and I couldn't bring up the Asus web console in my browser window. In Chrome I get

"No Data Received

ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE"

I have internet access, can ping the default gateway 192.168.1.1 and can scan services and see that port 80 is open. It doesn't look as though the web server is running though. Have obviously restarted router and tested with different browsers and ensured no proxy config.

SSH'd into box with Putty and have done a PS T and can see that the httpd service is running. Beyond that I'm pretty limited in what to do next.

Any idea how to troubleshoot this further and get the webconsole back up?

thanks in advance.

Dave

Have you tried disabling your Antivirus software or adding the router ip to any exclude lists for threat scans? Both ESET and Avast have been known to cause some strange results.

I can't get to the router from any device on the network, so the issue is definitely with the router.

I'd go ahead and factory reset, but it seems to me that it's a web server issue not a configuration issue. I'm worried that if my config goes I'd lose internet access too and not have a way to get back in to reconfigure it.

If anyone has any Linux/Busybox skills that could lend a hand I'd appreciate it. Cheers

You'll get that response trying to connect to a https web server using http instead. Try connecting same way but use https.

i.e.
https://192.168.1.1:80

Also,, when you log onto putty, what is output of this:
Code:
ps | grep http

Thanks guys. I ended up doing a full reset this morning and the web console has come back. All is working fine.

Thanks again.

better than my case. I could not access GUI even I did a full rest, so I flashed back to Stock FW and DDWRT to solve the problem.
